Septic tanks and drainage in George
George sits between the Outeniqua mountains and the coast, with Blanco, Heatherlands and Pacaltsdorp on the sewer and many Wilderness, Hoekwil, Karatara and outlying holdings on septic tanks or conservancy tanks. Rain falls all year, so soils stay wet and soakaways have little chance to dry out. Wilderness has sandy ground and a high water table near lakes and the Touw River, and sealed tanks or raised mounds are common. Sloping clay on the northern side drains slowly. Guesthouses and lodges along the Garden Route add seasonal loads. Honey sucker operators work from George, with Mossel Bay and Knysna trucks covering the edges.
Typical portable toilet hire requests in the area come from:
- Houses: a unit or two for a renovation or a garden party at an off-sewer house
- Lodges, guesthouses and venues: VIP units for weddings and conferences that exceed the lodge's own toilets
- Smallholdings and plots: extra toilets for a wedding, market day or build on a smallholding
- Estates and complexes: units for contractors working inside the estate during building or repairs
- Farms and game farms: chemical units in the lands for seasonal workers, or VIP units for a farm wedding
- Restaurants, shops and offices: units for a shop fit-out, pop-up market or outdoor trade show
- Schools, churches and clinics: temporary toilets for a school sports day or church conference
