Septic tanks and drainage in Bellville
Bellville and the northern suburbs are mostly on the City of Cape Town sewer, so septic tanks here are found on the outskirts: smallholdings in Durbanville, Philadelphia and Joostenberg, farms along the Klapmuts road and older homes in Kraaifontein and Brackenfell fringes. Soils are a mix of Malmesbury shale and clay, which drain slowly in the wet Cape winters, and parts of the Cape Flats side have a high water table. Wine and olive farms use french drains for cellars and housing. Stikland and Bellville South have industrial sites with grease traps and tanks. Honey sucker operators work from Bellville and Kuils River, and cover the Winelands edge.
Typical portable toilet hire requests in the area come from:
- Houses: a unit or two for a renovation or a garden party at an off-sewer house
- Smallholdings and plots: extra toilets for a wedding, market day or build on a smallholding
- Farms and game farms: chemical units in the lands for seasonal workers, or VIP units for a farm wedding
- Restaurants, shops and offices: units for a shop fit-out, pop-up market or outdoor trade show
- Factories, mines, sites and events: serviced units for a construction camp, plant shutdown or mine site
- Estates and complexes: units for contractors working inside the estate during building or repairs
- Lodges, guesthouses and venues: VIP units for weddings and conferences that exceed the lodge's own toilets
